The role of government is to
uphold and protect our rights; not grant or deny them, like so many
political favors. California is turning
into a micromanaging nanny state. The 80+ legislators up there in Sacramento think
they know better what the other 33,000,000+ of us should eat, how we
should take care of our kids, how we should conduct our business with
one another, what is best for our health, what our children should be
learning, and what the temperature of our homes should be, --just to
begin with.
What we have is a tyranny of the minority--people
who feel they can mandate their preferred behavior to the free citizens of
California. What you end up with creates criminals from non-criminal
behavior.
The people
aren’t perfect, but we know our needs better than a bunch of
politicians in Sacramento. I think Californians know what they should eat. I
think that parents know best how to raise their kids. I think it’s
nobody’s business what transaction two people engage in, or how much
money is exchanged, as long as it doesn’t infringe on the rights of
others. I think that physicians and consumers know best what kind of
service they want for their health. I think the best teachers in each
school district know what curriculum our children need.
True liberty means having the freedom to fail as well as the freedom to succeed. Our family, friends, neighbors and local charities should have the unrestricted freedom to help us when we're down; not a mandate from the government.
